Andrew Woods.

Parson n. — older, secular use

Someone who walks with people through the milestones and turning points of life. A counselor, partner, and guide.

This is just a glimpse of my story. I share it because the work we do is so important and you have a right to know why I give a damn.

Chapter I

I was built for this work.

Andrew Woods Andrew Woods - The Parson
Parson & Partners

For a long time I was the high-achieving, self-reliant person who drove hard toward every goal: scholarships, advanced degrees, the most demanding clinical environments I could find. Addiction treatment, crisis care, group homes for at-risk youth. I wanted results. I needed to fix the pain, in others and, honestly, in myself.

I burned out completely. All the learning, helping, and achievement couldn’t protect me from it. They brought me to it. It was humiliating and terrifying. That’s how truly being stuck with what matters most can sound from the outside, dramatic, even. You don’t need to experience that intensity for us to work together. But it’s important for you to know I’ve traversed it, many times. I recognize the terrain.

My wife and I walked away from everything and apprenticed on an organic farm in the mountains of western North Carolina, living in a barn, earning $50 a week. Not a quitting. A reckoning.

It was there I met the mentor who changed everything. He saw me and my situation in ways I was blind to, helped me find a way forward that was uniquely mine, and showed me the distinction that would define my work. The real work was never the crisis. It was always the person inside it.

I launched my first private practice in Asheville while starting a family and working side jobs on my mentor’s mountain ranch. Later, I pursued a larger entrepreneurial venture: a winery, vineyard, and retreat center with partners. I poured everything in, then ultimately found the awareness and courage to walk away when the partnership collapsed. I came out the other side more integrated than I went in. I rebuilt. Started leading retreats. Evolved the work. Sold our house and traveled the country for nearly two years with my wife and two sons, living from an RV.

Chapter II

Parson & Partners.

Now I work with people who are where I’ve been and will be again: capable, driven, and stuck in something that effort and intelligence alone won’t move. I also work with people who already know this and call in the right support. I move across the worlds of clinical depth, coaching, and strategic counsel without being confined to any one of them.

Outside the work, I spend a lot of time outdoors. I’m currently building out my third off-road rig, the kind that gets you into places where there’s no signal, no schedule, and no easy way back. I find that kind of terrain clarifying.

I’m also deep into training at the RIM Institute with Dr. Deb Sandella, exploring one of the more fascinating bodies of work I’ve encountered on how people truly heal and change. It’s the current chapter of the same curiosity.

I’m a licensed clinician with over 10,000 hours of direct client work. None of that captures the most important thing: I know the difference between what sounds right and what actually moves people. You’ll be able to verify that for yourself, in your gut, before we get very far.

What's In The Way Is The Way.

I learned this in my body, not as a concept. What changed wasn't just how I handled hard moments; it was what I wanted from them. I stopped chasing results as the exclusive reward.

The summit matters, but results pursued as the only aim have diminishing returns. They don't make you more.

Finding a way through does. It's what makes the result extraordinary, what turns you into someone who can truly enjoy it, and what makes every summit a launching point rather than a destination. That's not exhausting. That's freedom.

This is for people ready to stop managing what's in the way and start moving through it.
